Planning to go on a diet to shake off those extra inches round your waist to get ready for the year end feasting?

While we are all for a healthier diet that would lead to a trimmer body, here are some diet trends you may want to think twice about. 

Often, popular fads and trending diet plans are sparked off with good intentions. Yet, not many people considered the effects these diets might have on their bodies when taken to extremes.

Here are a few regimes that are likely to make you lose your appetites and perhaps your life, if done over a considerable period.

The CABBAGE SOUP Diet

Diet deets: Cabbage based soups for a 7-day cleanse diet. You can eat as much of it as you like. We like to call this the "after operation" diet.

Proposed Results: Because of the low-caloric nature of cabbages, the diet promises rapid weight loss within 7 days.

Reality: Old habits die hard, so once you’re done with this crazy concoction of cabbage compounds, it’s back to the old drawing board, and of course, the old weight.

Normal to Crazy Scale: Normal, only for Charlie in the Chocolate Factory.

The Dr. Atkins Diet

Diet deets: More famously known as the protein only diet founded by Dr. Robert C. Atkins in 1972, this diet plan consists of eating high-fat, high-protein, and low-carbs food items. Any fruits or vegetables are off the menu. Sounds like the perfect for the muscle-building machine menu for the lean mean meat-lover.

Proposed Results: Weight loss is expected due to the fact that protein has the ability to increase your satiety and reduce appetite.

Reality: Sounds too good to be true? Well, of course it is. The increase in a high protein and fat diet is likely to lead to high cholesterol. It’s interesting to note that Dr. Atkins suffered from cardiac arrest and cardiomyopathy; a chronic heart weakness. Whether or not the two issues are correlated, it’s up to you to decide.

Normal to Crazy Scale: Mad Cow Disease

The Baby Food Diet

Diet deets: When your diet is limited to only baby food, I guess it would be a lot simpler to plan dinner dates? Allowed a total of 14 jars a day, followed by one proper meal; the one good thing about it is that you can choose your preferred flavours! A little choice is better than no choice at all, right?

Proposed Results: What’s good for your baby must be good for you too. This diet is supposed to aid you in your digestion and make you feel more satisfied and full with many small meals a day.

Reality: It is unlikely to aid lose weight as not all baby foods are low in calorie! Adding to that is the fact that you might not get your daily requirements for vitamins and proteins for your adult sized body which makes this diet a no no.

Normal to Crazy Scale: Waa~ Waa~ BooHoo

The Sleeping Beauty Diet

Diet deets: Pay a willing doctor to sedate you for several hours or days and presto~ you are many kilos lighter!

Proposed Results: Depending on the amount of sedation, dieters can plan to lose a few kilos or even tens of kilos in a few days.

Reality: A few extra hours of sleep never killed anyone. But overdoing this is likely to take a toll on your health. Depriving your body from essential nutrients may cause you to lose not only weight, but muscle and general health too.
