Frequently Asked Questions

Swim For Hope 2017

Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

Q. What is Swim for Hope?
A. Swim for Hope is an annual charity swim event that debuted in 2011 at SAFRA Tampines. By 2014, the well-received fundraiser was expanded to five SAFRA clubs; and then extended to three days the following year. A parent-and-child category was introduced in 2016, encouraging more children below the age of 12 to join and do their part for charity.

Q. What is the purpose of Swim for Hope?
A. The purpose of this event is to raise money for the respective beneficiaries. The registration fees, donation boxes collection, individual outright donations and corporate companies’ donations will go to the respectively beneficiaries, namely: Aquatics Heart and Hope, Singapore Disability Sports Council, Rainbow Centre Singapore and SAF Care Fund.

Q. What is new in the 2017 edition of Swim for Hope?
A. Into its 7th edition this year, Swim for Hope will commemorate 50 years of National Service with the NS50 Challenge Category.

The NS50 Individual Challenge will test the physical endurance and mental resilience of participants, who will have to swim a total of 250 laps across the five SAFRA clubs on consecutive days. For the NS50 Team Challenge, NS units, organisations and members of the public can also participate by forming teams of five participants to swim 50 laps each.

As per previous years, the Open Category and Families for Life Parent-and-Child Category are also available.

A new unlocking mechanism - where the total number of laps participants swim will unlock a donation amount - will also be introduced.

Q. Where does the money go?
A. Proceeds received will be allocated to four beneficiaries this year, namely Aquatics Heart and Hope, Rainbow Centre Singapore, SAF Care Fund and Singapore Disability Sports Council.

Q. How much will be donated?
A. The number of laps swam is a contributing factor to the donation amount, and is based on the following unlocking mechanism:

No. of Laps Donation Amount (S$)
50,000 $25,000
100,000 $50,000
150,000 $75,000
200,000 $100,000
250,000 $125,000
300,000 $150,000
350,000 $175,000
400,000 $200,000

This is calculated based on past year statistics. In addition to registration fees, the targeted figures may be met with the addition of sponsorship, merchandise, donation boxes and donations from corporate companies.

Should there be additional proceeds raised beyond the unlocking tier, it will be added into the total amount donated to charity. All proceeds will go to the beneficiaries.

Q. Will there be goodie bags this year?
A. Yes. Each participant will be entitled to one participant tee and goodie bag, regardless of the number of slots or clubs selected across the three days (20 - 22 Oct 2017).

Q. Is there any pre-event goodie bag collection this year?

Teams of 5 that sign up for the NS50 Team Challenge will have to complete 50 laps per member - for a total of 250 laps as a team within the two-hour period. A. You will select the two-hour time slot at which you would like to swim. At the end of the two-hour time slot on the day of the event, if you would still like to continue swimming, you can top up another two-hour slot (subjected to availability).

Participants are required to register at least 30 minutes prior to their selected timing for a mandatory safety briefing. Flag off will start at each time slot (for e.g. 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and so on). Participants will be informed to exit the pool 10 minutes before the end of their slots to prepare for the next flag off. For those who have selected multiple time slots, they are required to exit the pool prior to the end of their current slot before proceeding to the start point for their next slot.

Q. Why should I sign up for more slots?
A. You will have a higher chance of finishing as one of the Top Three swimmers to win an exclusive prize and, at the same time, swim more laps to donate more to charity.

Q. Can I transfer my slots or get a refund if I cannot make the event after registering?
A. Slots are strictly non-transferable, non-exchangeable and non-refundable upon registration confirmation.
